IMD Forecasts Intermittent Rain Across Coastal and Interior Regions
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting rainfall across several parts of Tamil Nadu over the next five days. The wet weather is expected due to low-pressure systems developing over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
These weather systems are anticipated to bring intermittent rainfall, particularly along the coastal belt, while interior regions may remain largely dry but experience cooler temperatures.
Rainfall Outlook: January 6–10
-
January 6–7: Moderate rainfall is likely along coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, driven by moisture drawn from the nearby low-pressure areas. Interior districts will largely remain dry, though temperatures may be slightly lower than usual.
-
January 8: Rain activity is expected to spread to interior regions, resulting in scattered moderate showers across the state.
-
January 10: Moderate rainfall may occur across both northern and southern Tamil Nadu, indicating a wider distribution of rain as the weather system develops.
Temperature and Weather Conditions
The IMD has warned that temperatures are likely to drop by 2–3°C in many parts of the state over the next couple of days. This may lead to noticeable chill during early mornings, especially in inland and low-lying areas.
For Chennai and neighboring regions, the forecast predicts generally cloudy skies. Residents may experience light mist or fog in the early morning, which could reduce visibility in some locations.
Daytime temperatures are also expected to remain cooler than usual, as sunlight intensity is subdued due to persistent cloud cover.
IMD Advisory
The IMD has advised residents, especially in coastal and low-lying regions, to stay updated with weather alerts. Intermittent rainfall, fog, and cooler conditions may impact daily activities, travel, and transportation.
The department continues to closely monitor the evolving weather systems and will issue further updates as conditions change.
