CBSE Removes NOC Requirement for School Affiliation from 2026-27, Sparks Tamil Nadu Opposition

CBSE Updates School Affiliation Rules

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that schools seeking affiliation from the 2026-27 academic year will no longer require a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the state government.

Potential Conflict Between Centre and Tamil Nadu

This decision may lead to tensions between the Central Government and the Tamil Nadu state government, as it could result in a rapid increase in CBSE-affiliated schools in the state. The Tamil Nadu government has previously opposed the three-language policy, but the new rule allows schools to implement it without state approval.

CBSE Affiliation Through SARAS Portal

According to a notification issued by CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta, schools applying for CBSE affiliation can now register on the SARAS portal under different categories, either with or without an NOC from the state government.

This amendment to the 2018 affiliation bylaws marks a major shift in the education system, giving schools more flexibility in joining the CBSE curriculum without state intervention.
