Robin Westman Opens Fire at Minneapolis School, 2 Children Dead, 10 Injured

Deadly Attack During School Mass

A shocking school shooting in Minneapolis on August 27, 2025, left two children dead and at least ten people injured after former student Robin Westman opened fire at Annunciation Catholic School. The attack took place during the school’s first mass of the year.

According to police, Westman was armed with a rifle, pistol, and shotgun, all legally purchased. When unable to enter through the barricaded main door, Westman found another way inside and began shooting.

Victims and Injuries

Authorities confirmed that two children were killed before Westman took their own life. Among the ten injured, six were children and two adults remain in critical condition, though all are expected to survive.

Planned Attack

Investigators revealed that the attacker had planned the assault weeks in advance. A diary entry dated July 25 showed Westman had chosen the school’s August 27 all-school mass, noting the event would ensure maximum attendance by children and minimal presence of parents.

Law Enforcement Statements

U.S. Attorney for Minnesota, Joseph Thompson, condemned the act, saying:

“The attacker wanted to watch children suffer. I will not repeat their horrific words.”

Authorities added that Westman targeted the school and the nearby church because of familiarity with the campus—Westman’s mother had worked there as a secretary, and Westman had studied there until eighth grade.

About the Attacker

Court records show Robin Westman, born Robert Paul Westman, legally changed name in 2019. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed Westman was born male but later identified as female.

Hospital Updates

  • Children’s Minnesota Hospital reported three young patients are still admitted, while four have been discharged.

  • Hennepin Healthcare treated eight victims, including six children, several of whom remain under observation.
