Simplifying Citizen Access to Government Services
The Tamil Nadu government has introduced ‘Namma Arasu’, a unified WhatsApp-based chatbot, in collaboration with Meta. The initiative aims to make government services more accessible and streamline public service delivery across the state.
Residents can access the chatbot via WhatsApp at +91 7845 252525, offering a faster, more inclusive digital platform for various citizen services.
51 Services Available in the First Phase
In its initial phase, Namma Arasu provides 51 essential services in both Tamil and English. By integrating multiple departmental services, citizens can now:
-
Download certificates
-
Pay taxes and utility bills
-
Access welfare schemes
-
Use transport services
Other services include property registration, agricultural information, ration card services, temple donations, grievance filing and tracking, and tourism bookings.
Meta Highlights Citizen-Centric Approach
Arun Srinivas, Managing Director and Country Head, Meta (India), emphasized that the chatbot eliminates procedural complexity and brings government services closer to citizens.
He said, “By connecting residents to government services in real time, Namma Arasu provides convenient access to high-demand services such as tax payments, utility bills, and certificate downloads, making government support an everyday reality.”
Part of a Broader Trend of Digital Governance
The launch of Namma Arasu follows a growing trend of state-led WhatsApp chatbots designed to improve citizen engagement and last-mile service delivery.
The Tamil Nadu government has confirmed that more services will be added in future phases, making it easier for residents to interact with the government through a single, user-friendly digital platform.
