Coimbatore Accident: Woman and Son Killed in MPV Crash

A devastating accident on the Pollachi-Palakkad Road near Anaimalai, Tamil Nadu, claimed the lives of a woman and her four-year-old son on Friday.

Details of the Accident

The victims, Y. Asha (41) and her son Y. Anuppuraj (4), were residents of Kulathupalayam in Tirupur district. The family was traveling to a temple in Thrissur, Kerala, in a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) driven by M. Vimalraj (35) of Balaji Nagar, Tirupur.

Near Govindapuram, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road into an agricultural field and crashed into a coconut tree.

Impact and Casualties

  • Fatalities: Asha and Anuppuraj, seated in the second row, suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot.
  • Injuries: Asha’s other children, Abhineshwaran (11) and Ashwathi (21), sustained minor injuries and were treated at Pollachi Government Hospital.
  • Driver: Vimalraj escaped unharmed due to the deployment of airbags in the front.

Police Action

Anaimalai police arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies, and sent them for postmortem at Pollachi Government Hospital. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.


Namakkal Accident: Two Men Die in Mini-Truck Collision

In a separate incident, two men were killed when a flower-laden mini-truck collided with a goods lorry on the Namakkal-Salem National Highway near Pappinaickenpatti in the early hours of Friday.

Victims and Injuries

  • Fatalities: Nagaraj and Vignesh, who were seated on the left side of the mini-truck, lost their lives.
  • Driver’s Condition: The driver, Sakthivel, sustained severe injuries and is currently in the ICU of Namakkal Government Medical College Hospital.

Cause of the Collision

The mini-truck rammed into the rear of a goods lorry moving in the same direction, leading to the fatalities.

Police and Traffic Disruption

Nalliapalayam police conducted an inquiry at the accident site and sent the bodies for postmortem. The collision caused traffic disruption on the Namakkal-Salem National Highway for over an hour before the road was cleared.
